ART - the final frontier, uh no that's space, SPACE - the final frontier. But wait! There is space
in art, positive space, negative space, actual space, both real and illusionary space. Then there's
spatial relationships and the creation and manipulation of space on a flat surface or in a
3-dimensional space. Space created in digital imaging, on film, in a laser light show, is there ever an end to it? No there is not as long as man lives and breathes and imagines...And that's just space.
What about art exploding with movement, dripping with varied colors, tantalizing in texture, calming with soft tones, dazzling with light effects and contrasting shadows. Art that is breath
catching in beauty, stirring emotions, evoking memories of dreams and long lost desires, consoling us with visions of happy days and tender moments, inspiring us with the wonders of nature, inviting us into worlds of fantasy, myth and legend, not bound by time and space. All this causing us to think, feel, ponder and question. Art is all that and so much more.
Who are these amazing creatures called artists? Poets who wrestle with the human condition, super-heroes who create new worlds that defy natural laws, singers in paint, metal, clay, and fiber who create visual symphonies that stir the soul. It is beyond comprehension, how do they do it? How can this be? From the beginning of the appearance of mankind, he had created images and decorated tools and utensils, embellished clothing and shelters, always being creative and inventive. I believe artists are walking in the footsteps of their creator. They have been made in His image and given the seemingly magical gift of imagination and creativity which allows them , like the Creator, to have the power to create worlds of their own.
Footnote: This same spark of creativity also inspires singers, musicians, dancers, actors, writers, inventors, mathematicians and scientists, for without imagination, nothing happens.
